Flexible Interactive Workbooks in Excel

Tutorial 4

Formatting the main page

You can now have some fun making the page look nice!

Add colour, change font, Add borders, etc.

The following steps will work through the stages described above.

  1. Change the colours

    • First select the whole worksheet using the button at the top left of the workbook. You can use the 'Format, Cells, Patterns' option from the menu, but it is quicker to use the 'Fill colour' button on the formatting toolbar. Click on the small triangle to select the desired colour. Now select individual or small groups of cells and change their colour to highlight values. Use the 'Borders' button on the toolbar to add borders.

  2. Format the font

    • Click the button at the top left of the worksheet to select the whole worksheet. Now change the font style, (Make sure it is easy to read!). You can also change individual cells if you wish.

    • Change other formatting, such as size, alignment, bold, etc. It is best to keep the colour of the font black for using the show/hide macros, though the font colour of any information that is not to be hidden can be changed.

    • The vertical alignment of text in a cell is controlled through the 'Format, Cells, Alignment' option from the menu.
